| | Posted : 11 Dec 2018 - 21:04 Post title : Clutch Friction Plate Info | | | Hi all not sure if this is the right category for this post but I thought this might be useful to someone out there.
While I was inspecting the Torque Converter I thought I'd check the clutch basket. I have the actual Triumph Storm manual but i mainly use the online free one because much of it is the same. To my knowledge the clutch mechanisms are the same from the 2010 models through to the end of the line. But no, that isn't the case.
Anyways, I opened up the online free manual and it said the fiction plates have a service limit of 3.5mm and a standard of 3.72-3.88mm. So when i checked my friction plates I found that they were all less than 3.5, ranging from 3.3-3.5. So I thought- crap i need to order a new set. So i got my new set via Fowlers express delivery then got them, inspected the brand new ones and found that they were 3.5mm new! And thus by the online manual, out of spec.
So I whipped out my Storm manual and it says that the Service limit is 3.2mm and the Standard is 3.3mm-3.5mm. What is interesting is that it doesn't specify that this bit is for the "Storm". The manual I have covers: Thunderbird, Storm, Commander and LT versions but doesn't say that these specifications are not for the Thunderbird.
I was annoyed with myself for not checking this because i just wasted money on a new clutch fiction plate kit, that yes i will use one day.
I then also noticed extra instructions to check the Clutch Pack Height if you are installing a new pack that should be 37.6mm with a tolerance of +0.38 -0.62mm. These bit of the instructions are not in the original manual online.
When I get around to it i'll add this all to my website, but for now I'm posting it here just in case anyone else checks there and wonder why the numbers don't seem right.

1600,Foran Razorbacks, Meerkat bypass, Dyno tune, real headlight,plenty of chrome,switchblade pegs, Hagon Nitro shocks & Ikon progressive fork springs etc. Scorpion Western Low handlebars. PH adjustable fork caps.

| I sometimes wonder what I"ll do when I grow up.... but not very often
